BPD’s Operation Blue Santa Helps Local Families for Holidays

“Operation Blue Santa” is a program developed and administered by the Buffalo Police Department that over its eight-year existence has helped local families that are struggling during the holidays to have a little brighter season.

According to a release from the BPD, each year they are given names of families that could use some extra support and work with them to assess their needs and provide support where they can.

Erika McCarter, a dispatcher for the police department, explains the program further.

Other support given by the program includes gifts for children, groceries, gift cards, paying school lunch debts, providing free transportation for seniors through the BATS bus, and providing meal vouchers for seniors at the senior center.

The organizers for Operation Blue Santa, Erika and Officer Brian McCarter, are again asking for support of the program from the community, which it relies on for its success.
