The City of Sheridan will be holding two upcoming public meetings to garner public feedback on the option to allow Accessory Dwelling Units in areas of the City zoned R-1 Residential. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

City to Hold Two Public Meetings on Accessory Dwelling Units

An accessory dwelling unit, or ADU, is defined as a residential living unit that is detached from a single-family dwelling that provides independent living facilities for one or more persons, which include a separate entrance, kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping facilities, located on the same lot as the primary single-family residence. ADU’s  are also sometimes referred to as Granny Flats, Mother-in-Law Apartments, carriage houses, or guest houses. The City is seeking public input on possibly allowing ADU’s on property zoned R-1 Residential and will hold two public meetings over the next week, the first being Thursday at 5:30 pm at the Rock Church in Sheridan. The second meeting will be Wednesday, August 11th at the Hub on Smith, also at 5:30 pm. City Public Works Director Lane Thompson.

Thompson said there is a page on the City’s website that has a presentation on ADU’s and people can answer the survey on the page as well. He said staff will compile the results of the public involvement process and will report back to the Mayor and Council for direction on whether to proceed with code amendments or not.

I’m very much against amending any R-1 Zoning. I purchased my house based on the fact that it is strictly an established residential area.

I agree! Same here and we already have a lot of cars and traffic on our residential street.
