Aaron PalmerAt the most recent Johnson County COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center briefing, County Public Health Officer Dr. Mark Schueler was asked when or if the county may reach a state of “herd immunity” since the vaccination of people in the county is underway.
The 75% vaccination rate seems to be the threshold that some are touting for herd immunity.
Dr. Schueler saidhospitalization rates should be the focus moving forward and basing our policies and practices on that.
It should be a transition we see in the coming months, but its hard to change course because there is a very large system with a lot of people involved.
It’s been a moving target all through the process, so he doesn’t expect rapid changes coming down from the policy makers, but a more careful and methodical approach.
