Sheridan County School District 2 has received a donation from Homer and Janet Scott to buy Holly Seed property adjacent to Sheridan High School.

The donation of $1.4 million was accepted by District 2 trustees at their meeting this week. District 2 Superintendent Craig Dougherty said the Scott family, and in particular Homer and Janet, have been tremendous supporters of the school district for years.

He said the district isn’t sure yet how the land will be used, but the district is in the process of evaluating the ways it can be used to support district activities.

In a related action, trustees ratified the purchase agreement for the Holly Seed property, and a closing on the property is expected to happen in January.

In separate action, trustees recognized the Sheridan Donut Company for donation of a donut card to every District 2 staff member in the community. Dougherty said that amounted to a donut per person for well over 600 people.

Turning to other matters during their meeting, trustees elected officers for the coming year. Sue Wilson was elected chairman of the board and Arin Waddell vice chairman. Shane Rader was elected treasurer and Shelley Szmyd as clerk.
