Sheridan Fire-Rescue Open House: Saturday Oct. 10

Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 4 through the 10. It is an annual public safety campaign sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to educate the public about fire safety and prevention. This year’s theme is ‘Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.’

The Sheridan Fire-Rescue Open House coincides with the prevention week. Sheridan Fire-Rescue Fire Chief Gary Harnish appeared on Sheridan Media’s Pulse inviting the public to stop in for free popcorn and an obstacle course for the kids.

Harnish said the event isn’t just fun for kids and parents, it’s the year’s highlight event for Sheridan’s hard working firefighters.

According to the Chief, the free, family-friendly event gives residents an opportunity to tour the station, view firefighting apparatus up close, and meet your local firefighters. Families can enjoy interactive safety demonstrations, and kids can participate in hands-on activities.

For Fire Prevention Week, Sheridan’s bravest will be on hand to demonstrate proper charging practices for everyday electronics and answer questions about household fire prevention, both from the kids and from parents.

The Sheridan Fire-Rescue Open House begins at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Sheridan Fire-Rescue Station. Families can also find educational games, activities, and resources on the NFPA Sparky the Fire Dog Safety Site.
