Annual Public Seminar on Estate Planning: Oct 10

Published

on

An annual estate planning seminar through the Hub on Smith gives residents an opportunity to learn how to prepare for future financial, medical and family decisions.

Few Americans are prepared for a crisis. A recent survey found just 24 to 32 percent of Americans have a will.

Estate lawyers Tim Tarver and Christopher Sherwood, representing both Sheridan and Johnson counties and Prudential Advisor Laurie Ross appeared on Sheridan Media’s Pulse to invite the public to a seminar that has shared this vital information for almost three decades.

While conversations about wills, trusts, and health care decisions are often linked to senior citizens, Sherwood said the information is important for anyone over the age of 18. Especially in regards to powers of attorney.

According to the American Bar Association, estate planning is a process involving the counsel of professional advisors who are familiar with goals and concerns, assets and how they are owned, and family structure. It can involve the services of a variety of professionals, including a person’s  lawyer, accountant, financial planner, life insurance advisor, banker and broker.

Presentations made during the Estate Planning Seminar are structured to let attendees come and go, focusing on information that best fits their needs. Refreshments will be served during breaks, and lunch will be provided by event sponsors and includes a discussion on common mistakes and possible pitfalls.

The team wishes to ensure that everyone in attendance gets answers to tough questions and are willing to engage in small Q&As during refreshment breaks.

The Estate Planning Public Seminar is free and open to everyone. Registration is not required but is appreciated to help organizers plan for meals. To make a reservation, call Tarver & Leininger LLP at 307-673-5000.

The Public Seminar on Estate Planning will begin at 9 a.m.  Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Hub on Smith.
