Dirk Miller retires after 38+ years of service to Wyoming’s wildlife

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has reported that after more than 38 years of dedicated service to the State of Wyoming, Dirk Miller, fiscal division chief, is retiring from the department. 

According to the Game and Fish, Miller’s career has been defined by a commitment to fisheries management and overseeing the department’s fiscal team. The Game and Fish Fiscal Division is responsible for managing the agency’s financial operations, license sales, and budget planning.

“I am thankful for the opportunities to do challenging work, travel to interesting places and work with outstanding people,” Miller said. “It has been an honor to work alongside so many talented, dedicated and genuinely great people.”

Miller began his career with Game and Fish in 1988 as the fish population crew supervisor. In 1996, he was selected as the assistant fisheries management supervisor and was promoted to the position of assistant fisheries division chief in 2012. Miller has served as the fiscal division chief since July 2024.

Throughout his tenure, Miller was recognized for his dedication to wildlife conservation on multiple occasions, including a nomination for the department’s Director’s Award in 2000 and nominations for the Team of the Year award in 2005 and 2021.

“Dirk has been a part of Game and Fish for nearly four decades,” interim director of Game and Fish Eric Wiltanger said. “His dedication and expertise will be greatly missed throughout the department. He has been an excellent resource throughout his career, and few rival his knowledge of the department’s history. We wish him the best in his well-deserved retirement.”
