Statewide System Alerts Residents on How to Respond to Critical Incidents 

September is National Preparedness Month. During the month, communities and families are encouraged to make plans and conduct drills to ensure they are as prepared as possible for critical incidents. 

In times of large scale critical incidents, Sheridan County Emergency Management uses the Ready, Set, Go, Stay system to inform residents how to respond during these emergencies.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Emergency Management Coordinator Jesse Ludikhuize said Ready, Set, Go, Stay is utilized statewide as a universal alert system.

Ludikhuize said “Ready” means a potential threat is nearby and residents should monitor information, review evacuation plans and gather medications, documents, pet supplies and other essentials.

“Set” signals a significant threat and means people should prepare to leave immediately, moving livestock early and departing before an evacuation order if they need time.

“Go” means an immediate threat exists and residents must evacuate without delay, following directions from public safety officials. 

“Stay” may be issued when sheltering in place is safer than evacuating. Residents can check their zone, evacuation status, road closures and official instructions through Perimeter Map.
