SCRIPTED Displays the Power of Words

SAGE Community Arts Executive Director Jill Benson joined Public Pulse to discuss SCRIPTED, SAGE’s 16th National Juried Exhibition. 

Benson said the exhibition explores the intersection of image and language, challenging artists to incorporate hand-lettering into their visual work.

Benson said artists were encouraged to interpret the theme broadly through typography, expressive script, handwritten elements and a variety of contemporary, traditional, abstract and mixed-media approaches. She said the artists’ interpretations demonstrate the depth and versatility of lettering as an art form.

SCRIPTED is currently on display and will be available to view until Oct. 10 at SAGE Community Arts in Sheridan, giving the public an opportunity to see written language transformed into visual expression.
