Sheridan police are preparing for the start of the new school year, with Sheridan County School District 2 beginning classes Tuesday, Aug. 25.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley said school safety remains a priority through coordination with administrators, School Resource Officer Megan Phillips and regular visits by patrol officers.

Police also monitor traffic as students return home in the afternoon.

The SPD Chief encouraged drivers to allow extra travel time and watch closely for children walking or biking near schools and throughout Sheridan.

The Chief said he and uniformed officers will be present at the schools and on patrol in critical zones during the first day to ensure everyone has a safe and fun back to school.
