SPD Leadership Remark on WYO Rodeo Week

The Sheridan Police Department is reporting another successful WYO Rodeo Week, crediting strong partnerships, planning and public cooperation for helping keep one of Sheridan’s busiest weeks safe. 

WYO Rodeo Week ran from July 7 through July 12, bringing thousands of visitors to Sheridan for rodeo performances, downtown events and the annual parade. 

According to Sheridan Police Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley, the department worked alongside the rodeo board, City of Sheridan Public Works, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol and four officers from the Gillette Police Department to provide additional public safety resources. 

Over the last few decades, WYO Rodeo Week has evolved to provide a true western cowboy rodeo experience for the entire family. The achievement belongs to everyone involved, Koltiska said.

The success of WYO Rodeo Week is a reflection of the dedicated employees and volunteers working in the background, customer service providers, community minded servers and as Ringley pointed out, the leadership at Sheridan County Travel and Tourism.

Officers responded to 117 incidents, made 77 traffic stops and recorded 32 arrests during the primary enforcement period from Thursday evening through Sunday morning. 

The Captain also noted fewer visibly intoxicated people during downtown events and reported that parade spectators complied with the city’s new chair placement rules. 

Ringley said the planning for next year’s WYO Rodeo Week begins immediately by reviewing this year’s operations and applying lessons learned.
