Services provided by the Buffalo Senior Center not only benefit seniors in Buffalo, but in Kaycee and the county as well, according to Executive Director AJ Mock.

The senior center is looking toward the future and trying to establish a more reliable funding source through a senior citizens special district, which voters in the county will decide during the August primary election.

Mock, in an interview with Sheridan Media, talked about the services offered by the senior center.

Mock said with the current pandemic, it has become obvious how important socialization services are to the senior community.

The center, according to Mock, currently serves over 1,000 people in the county, and as the “gray wave”-the aging of the community-happens in the coming years with more and more seniors in the community, the question is how they will meet the increased demand for those services.

The senior center has sent out mailers to Johnson County explaining the need for the special district and asking for voter support in the primary election.

The special district, if approved by voters, would provide one mill to fund the senior center and senior programs in the county.
