JCSD1 Board Names Alt School, Sets Grad Requirements

The Johnson County School District Board of Trustees met for their regular June meeting Monday night, and approved the name of and the graduation requirements for the new alternative high school awarded to the district by the state earlier this spring.

The board approved the name “New West High School” for the new addition to the district.

The board also set graduation requirements for those students attending the school.

A minimum of 20 credits will be required, and were detailed in the meeting agenda.

Four credits of English will be required; three of Social Studies including American History; three of Science with one of biological science; three of Mathematics; two years of Physical Education for one credit; one-half credit of Personal Finance; one-half credit of Social/Emotional Learning Skills; one-half credit for a senior project; and four and a half credits for electives.

Students will be required to be enrolled at New West High School for a minimum of one semester in order to graduate from the school.
