Bighorn National Forest Powder River District Ranger Traci Weaver gave an update on the district to the Forest Steering Committee at their annual meeting this week, saying there had been changes in place during the current health crisis, but the public has been able to interact with the the office.

Services are still available and they have had people working in the office during the COVID-19 crisis, issuing permits and other paperwork either via the internet or allowing the public to pick them up with minimal contact.

Once safety protocols are in place, the office will again open to the public, she said.

The public has already been inquiring about recreational opportunities on the forest.

Weaver said people are already driving Crazy Woman Canyon, and the road is in decent shape so far.

She is hoping road crews will be able to get in there and repair some areas where they are losing the road bed.

WYDOT will be doing overlay projects over the mountain this summer and Weaver discussed their request for a traffic cam on Highway 16.

WYDOT’s overlay project will be between Tensleep and Buffalo and is scheduled for 2020 and 2021.
