According to the Wyoming FFA Association, wool judging is a specialized competition that challenges students to evaluate and grade wool based on its quality, cleanliness, length, and strength. Participants must also demonstrate their knowledge of the wool grading system, which plays a crucial role in determining its market value.
“Like all of the Wyoming FFA career development events, wool sharpens critical thinking and decision-making skills. This competition also deepens students’ understanding of one of Wyomingʼs key agricultural industries,ˮ Wyoming FFA State Advisor Stacy Broda said.
As one of the nationʼs top producers of wool, Wyomingʼs sheep and wool industry is a cornerstone of the stateʼs agricultural economy.
“Events like the Wyoming FFA Wool Judging Competition encourage the next generation of agricultural leaders to engage with and support this vital sector,ˮ Broda said. “By participating, students gain hands-on experience and an appreciation for the skills required to maintain the industryʼs high standards.ˮ
The winners will be recognized on stage and receive their awards at the Wyoming FFA Convention on April 10, 2025, in Cheyenne.
“Thank you to Dylan Laverell and the UW Wool Judging Team for hosting the event and helping Wyoming FFA members learn these important industry skills,” Broda said.
