Johnson County Voters Defeat One Percent Specific Purpose Tax

Voters in Johnson County were asked to consider a One Percent Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax during Tuesday’s General Election.

Three propositions were built into the ballot measure, where voters could pass or reject one, two, or all three propositions.

The first was for $250,000 for the planning, engineering, and construction of improvements to Nolan Road in Kaycee.

That proposition was defeated by voters.

The second proposition was for just over $5.7 million for the planning, engineering, construction and paving, including curb and gutter, sidewalk, and water and sewer mains on North Burritt Avenue from Fort Street to Mathers Street in Buffalo.

Voters also defeated that proposition.

The third proposition, although on the ballot, was not needed as the Kaycee Branch Library was awarded funding for their expansion project and voters were asked to not vote for that proposition.

The only contested race in Johnson County was for Buffalo City Council with Richard “Scott” Madsen, Jeffrey Cope, and Wes Haskins running for 2 open seats.

Madsen was re-elected and Haskins won the second seat.
