On Sept. 4, The Sheridan Police Department alerted the public to a scam that involved a Casper, Wy. based business failing to complete contracted work.

On Sept. 5, SPD Captain Tom Ringley informed Sheridan Media that the investigation has revealed the matter is no longer linked to any criminal intent.

According to the SPD, on Sept. 3, a local business owner reported a scam to the department. The business owner was reportedly approached outside his business by a representative from Oil City Paving, LLC, based in Casper, WY.

The business owner reported to the SPD he was left with uncompleted work, and had spoken with an investigator from the Wyoming Department of Revenue, who stated Oil City Paving, LLC. was under investigation for fraudulent activity.

During the course of the SPD investigation, Capt. Ringley said a representative from Oil City Paving LLC. stated work was performed but then directly after, left for vacation. The representative reported he was working diligently towards closure and satisfying the customer.

Capt. Ringley added investigators are still gathering documentation regarding this matter but reiterated there is no indication of criminal intent.

The Oil City representative informed the SPD, they were aware such scams have been orchestrated in Sheridan in the past but this was not the case in this matter.

The SPD Captain told Sheridan Media that should the local business owner wish to pursue further, it is now a civil matter.
