Fire Near Buffalo Prompts Evacuation Orders

***UPDATE as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday***

Fire update from Johnson County Emergency Management:

Evacuation Orders are in place for residents living between Cook Road and I-90; east of Trabing.

Residents on Trabing currently are not under evacuation orders.

I-90 is being closed in both directions as the fire is crossing the freeway moving north/northeast.

An emergency shelter is open at Bomber Mountain Civic Center in Buffalo; 68 N. Burritt Ave, in Buffalo.

Domestic pets are welcome at this shelter. Livestock may be taken to Johnson County Fairgrounds or Buffalo Sale Barn.

Please remain out of the active fire areas as first responders are working to slow the fire down.

Winds are expected to ease by 6pm. Updates will be made as they become available.

Currently supplies are not needed at shelters but we will advise if this changes.

A fire south of Buffalo near Cook Road/ Buffalo Sussex Cutoff Road has prompted evacuation orders for those that reside in that area, according to Johnson County Emergency Management.

Residents are asked to remain out of the area if not currently being evacuated.

Traffic congestion prohibits first responders from accessing critical points.

An emergency shelter has been opened at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center for those that have been evacuated. Only those persons should report to the shelter.
