Aaron PalmerSheridan County Airport Manager John Stopka is retiring, and he was recognized for his service to the county during Tuesday’s county commission meeting.
According to Chairman Lonnie Wright, Stopka worked at the airport for more than 46 years, including 20 plus years as manager.
Stopka addressed the crowd, saying it was his last meeting as the manager and he wanted to give thanks for the support he has received over the years.
He also thanked the other county officials that he has worked with that have helped him in many different ways during his time with the county.
He commended the commission for hiring Robert Gill as the new airport manager, saying it was “ a great decision” on the part of the commission to offer him the opportunity.
Stopka finished by saying retiring will be bittersweet and he will miss the position, but it’s time to move on.
