The Sheridan Civic Theatre Guild will perform Beer for Breakfast, a play by Sean Grennan and directed by Sharon Bedard, as the first feature of the 2022-2023 Revival Season.

Recently, director Bedard appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program along with two of her performers, Valeri Hovland who portrays the character Jessie and Rob Wells who plays TJ in the production.

According to Bedard, although a comedy, the play, which revolves around a group of buddies getting away for a “guys weekend” only to find one of the friends has sent his wife (Jessie) in his place, explores deep themes of choices people must make as they begin to move into the middle-age of their lives.

Hovland plays Jessie, an educated woman who has a full plate at home; a character who has a family relying on her maturity and strong sense of responsibility. She arrives, to the chagrin of the buddies, in place of her husband, Adrian.

Hovland shared her character development with listeners, saying that she initially didn’t want to identify with Jessie, but saw herself in the character after some time.

Wells, a new member of the Sheridan Civic Theatre Guild, plays TJ, the leader of the band of friends. The character dislikes Jessie. Wells told listeners that TJ portrays a tough, wise-cracking exterior, but is hanging onto the group of friends, perhaps using them as shield against aging and adapting to change.
