Pat BlairThe Sheridan Inn, Trail End State Historic Site and museums have earned Sheridan a place on True West magazine’s Top 10 True Western Towns for 2020.
Bob Boze Bell, True West Executive editor, said Sheridan has always been a hub of Old West activity – even before Buffalo Bill Cody sat on the porch of the Sheridan Inn and auditioned tryouts for his Wild West shows.
Bell said the past still lives here, in the buildings and museums – and the hearts of the residents. Sheridan is number 7 on the True West list, which is topped by San Angelo, Texas.
Buffalo was named third on the magazine’s list this year.
Bell said all of the towns on the list honor the past and celebrate the present. He said in doing these things, all of these towns have a very bright future.
The 10 towns will be spotlighted in True West’s February-March issue, which will be out on newsstands Feb. 18.
This is the 15th year that True West has presented the annual award. Magazine editors base their selections on criteria demonstrating how each town has preserved its history through old buildings, museums and other institutions, events and promotions of historic resources.
