Ron RichterThe City of Sheridan and the Sheridan Police Department have been enjoying hosting guests with the Combat Veteran Motorcycle Association this week. A media release issued by the SPD states that they would like to welcome and thank the Cheyenne Police Department (CPD) officers who will bring and operate the DUI processing van on the nights of June 25th and June 26th. The intent is to facilitate everyone’s enjoyment of what should be a fun weekend without having to make any arrests. If a motorist is arrested for DUI, he or she will be processed in the DUI van.
The van, which will also serve a visual deterrent, will be located on North Main Street. The Sheridan Police Department will be part of a DUI task force which will also consist of the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol. The purpose of the increased law enforcement presence is to keep our roads safe for everyone.

that’s not true mitch…for as long as jails have existed there has been “a special place” for town drunks…remember “Otis” the fictional town drunk on the “Andy Griffith” show?….yep even in “Mayberry” USA

no…I am afraid he is right. our approach has shifted from focusing on the trouble makers, whether drunks or terrorists, to “show of force” for everyone. I agree that an “in your face” DUI van parked in the middle of town in offensive to those of us with common sense.

freedom is apparently second in your world and willing traded for your perception of “safety and security”. personal accountability is a far more important tenant of society than waving the threat of enforcement before all…..

that task force van is a “reminder” for everyone to “ride safe” this week…it’s a common practice used by all law enforcement agencies during motorcycle rallies all across the USA…motorcycle rallies can be both fun and dangerous…law enforcement is not the goal…quite the contrary…public safety is the goal
