Pat BlairA report on proposed expansion of Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s transitional care unit was presented to trustees at their meeting this week.
Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty said no action was being asked at this time, but more information and a recommendation will be presented to trustees for action at next month’s meeting.
McCafferty said the goal is to match the growth of the transitional care unit with the market. He said a hospital study in January indicated there was both an unmet patient need for the transitional care unit and an unmet opportunity.
He said the transitional care unit currently takes care of around eight patients a day, but it looks like the market could bear around 20 patients a day.
He said in addition to bringing a recommendation to the hospital trustees next month, he will also have an associated funding plan.
