The Museum at the Bighorns is turning to the Sheridan community to help replace the building’s roof.

On July 10, according to Museum Executive Director Mikayla Larrow, wind gusts in Sheridan that reached around 30 miles per hour caught and ripped one of the roof’s metal sheets.

During a recent Public Pulse show, Larrow talked about how she learned of the damage.

From local roofers, Larrow said she learned that the interlocking nature of the metal roof would be a problem, and that the museum needs a new roof before this winter. The plan is to install a shingle roof for greater flexibility, and the museum needs to raise over $77,500.

Larrow said the Roberts Foundation has provided a challenge grant of $10,000, to be matched by the community.

Members of the community are asked to help raise funds for the roof by sending a check designated as “memo: roof” to Museum at the Bighorns, 850 Sibley Circle, Sheridan, WY 82801, or donate online at http://museumatthebighorns.com/shop.html#!/Roof-Fund/p/231943220/category=0.
