Pat BlairUnemployment rates fell from May to June in most Wyoming counties, including Sheridan, suggesting some improvements in local labor markets, according to the state’s Department of Workforce Services.
The statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell from nearly 9 percent in May to 7.6 percent in June.
In Sheridan County, the rate fell from nearly 8 percent in May to slightly under 6 percent in June. Sheridan County recorded among the largest unemployment rate decreases in the state.
Statewide, Wyoming’s unemployment rate was still considerably higher than in June 2019, but the statewide rate was significantly lower than the U.S. rate of just over 11 percent.
Natrona County had the highest unemployment rate in June at 11 percent, and Campbell County was second-highest at 9.5 percent.
According to the Department of Workforce Services, the overall decrease in unemployment suggests that Wyoming’s economy continues to recover from the sharp contraction seen in April.
The lifting of some COVID-19 restrictions and the reopening of businesses appear to have resulted in many people returning to work.
