McCalla Sentenced to Prison

A 34-year-old Sheridan was sentenced for involuntary manslaughter in Fourth Judicial District Court Monday. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
Following eight emotionally charged victim impact statements from family members and loved ones, District Court Judge Ben Kirven accepted the terms of the plea agreement reached with the State and sentenced Cody McCalla to 4 to 6 years in prison for the charge of involuntary manslaughter. McCalla was given credit for four days of time served of presentence confinement. McCalla was also ordered to pay $275 in court costs and assessments and $4,063 in restitution to the State of Wyoming Victims Compensation Fund. The plea agreement allows for McCalla to appeal the Court’s order that was issued on February 4, which denied his motion to dismiss under Wyoming Statute 6-2-602, which is the state’s stand your ground law.
At a hearing in District Court on February 19, McCalla entered a plea of no contest to the involuntary manslaughter charge. McCalla was arrested for the crime on July 12, 2024 for punching 48-year-old Patrick Mudd in the face, causing traumatic brain injury that resulted in Mudd’s death. The altercation between the two men was the result of a parking dispute outside of the Sheridan County Fairgrounds.
