Pat BlairSheridan Media reporter Pat Blair looks back in time, over 100 years ago, to the impact of Spanish influenza as reported in the pages of the Sheridan Enterprise in 1918.
Only one death from the Spanish influenza was reported during the 24 hours that ended at noon today, Oct. 26, and that was in Sheridan. County Health Officer Dr. Hurd believes this indicates an abatement of the epidemic here.
Presumably in a delirium coming as an aftermath of influenza, with which he had been suffering, a miner living in Monarch earlier this week left his home and plunged into the chilly water of the Tongue river. The body was located and brought to the surface yesterday afternoon.
Alf Diefenderfer is among those convalescing from the flu who were seen circulating in the warm sunlight along Main street today.
