Sheridan County’s Commissioners, in their Consent Agenda at their last meeting, voted to ratify a Letter of Support for the City of Sheridan in their application for funding from the US Department of Transportation’s Bridge Investment Program (BIP) for the city’s West 5th Street Bridge Replacement Project.

In the commission’s letter, they wrote that, “the West 5th Street bridge connects the downtown business district with the west side of Sheridan, serving as a vital artery for daily commutes to downtown-based businesses, schools, places of worship, medical facilities, and other critical facilities.

The letter added that the bridge was constructed in 1968 and is currently over the recommended age for service as a structure of its kind, with a recent assessment showing the bridge deck condition as “poor.”

They asked Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and the Department of Transportation to strongly consider the 5th Street Bridge project for BIP funding.
