News ReleaseThe following is an announcement from Sheridan County School District One Superintendent Jeff Jones:
SCSD#1 Parents and Staff,
Here is an update on where we stand from the school district standpoint, based on the latest information we have been given.
As you know, we dismissed the TRHS students and staff at 9:30 a.m. this morning because of the fire on the mountain. Students took their chromebooks home just to be prepared for virtual (online learning).
I spoke with emergency personnel at the fire command center at 2:15 p.m. this afternoon. They have a lot more personnel and equipment arriving at the fire tomorrow and are hopeful this will make a positive impact. With that stated, because things at this time are still uncertain for tomorrow, and the fact that there is going to be a lot of action with equipment and personnel moving in the Tongue River High School area, emergency personnel has asked that we keep students and staff at TRHS out again tomorrow. Therefore, that is what we will do. Mr. Sanford, TRHS Principal, will be in touch with his staff, students, and parents regarding a specific plan and expectations for going online tomorrow.
As per the recommendations from emergency management personnel, we will have school as normal at TRE and TRMS tomorrow. With regards to activities and events tomorrow on the Tongue River side of the district, I will be meeting with the administrative team mid-day tomorrow to discuss our current reality at that time. If the news is positive and we can safely move practices over to the middle school in Ranchester, then we will have that conversation. Those decisions and announcements will need to wait until tomorrow when we have more information on the progress of the fire fighting. Safety will be the priority.
In summary, all students at Tongue River High School will be online tomorrow and not coming to school in person. Mr. Sanford, TRHS Principal will be in touch with TRHS staff, students, and parents with more details. TRE and TRMS will have school as normal. My “command center” will be in my office tonight and I will communicate with all parents and staff as soon as anything changes. Please reach out to your child’s building principal with questions. If they can’t answer your question, they will let me know and I will be in touch as soon as possible.
Thank you and keep the thoughts and prayers coming for our fire fighters and families affected at this time!
Jeff Jones,
Superintendent
