At the Johnson County Commission’s recent meeting, discussion turned to concerns over a generator supplied by the county to the local radio stations that were to be a backup to get emergency notifications to the community in case of power outages.

The stations, owned by Legend Communications and operating under the name Bighorn Mountain Radio, have been off the air for weeks.

Commission Chairman Bill Novotny talked about the agreement between the county and the radio stations concerning the generator.

The agreement also stipulates that Bighorn Mountain Radio will return the generator to the county if the agreement is terminated.

According to County Attorney Tucker Ruby, the stations being off the air constitutes, in his opinion, a breach of the agreement and would mean if the commission chooses to ask, then the company should return the generator to the county.

After discussion, Ruby said he would contact Bighorn Mountain Radio to see what the radio group is intending to do before making a formal request concerning the generator.
