Sheridan College will feature acclaimed local artist and Ucross Foundation Residency Director Tawni Shuler on Thursday, September 19 at 4 pm. . Her exhibit, “In Mythos and Fairy Tales,” will be on display in the Edward A. Whitney Gallery at Sheridan College until October 31.

Her work has been shown around the country, including in Southwest Art’s 2005 Emerging Artist issue. “In Mythos and Fairy Tales” is her most recent exhibition and features large scale, fable-based, black and white drawings that, according to her website, are used to “express universal themes such as joy, heartbreak, jealousy, pride, and aggression… that serve as metaphors for the human experience.”

Using primarily shades of charcoal, warm and cool whites, and the “small rich bit of symbolic color” on oversized fiber paper, Shuler created scenes of life-size animals with photographic details, often including symbolic images and objects in imagined settings and scenarios to illustrate human experiences and emotions.
