Sheridan County’s Commissioners, during their last regular meeting, ratified documents on lots in the Trailside at Woodland Park Subdivision.

The first was a Sheridan County Affordable Housing Program third-party mortgage and note with a purchaser of Lot 13, as well as a Release of Mortgage between Sheridan County, lienholder, and Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns, Inc. for the same Lot 13.

Also ratified was a Release of Mortgage between Sheridan County, lienholder, and Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns, Inc. for Lot 12.

The Trailside at Woodland Park Affordable Housing Project consists of entry-level single-family homes located near Woodland Park Elementary School.

The project was partially funded with money provided by the Sheridan County Commission for affordable housing projects in the county.

For the first time ever, a commissioner made a motion to lower our taxes. She moved to drop the mil-rate by one percent. Of course it failed, when none of the other four commissioners moved to second.
Guess the failed four can’t hear our cries for Tax Relief!
But not to worry. More good conservative commissioners are on the way. We’ll one day have a majority of Real Republicans, who’ll listen to citizens and start lowering our taxes.

In an interesting display of Freedom Caucus election year grandstanding, County Commissioner Holly Jennings moved to amend the Sheridan County Mill Levy from 12 to 11. Remember this occurred after the 2024-2025 fiscal year budget has already been approved. Her comment to The Sheridan Press was this this might only be half a tank of gas or a few groceries, but it might make a difference to a single parent.

Bear in mind that no part of the amendment suggested how to make up or cut the $780,000 (one mill levy) that this would reduce the county budget. That would equate to around 15 employee salaries for the county. That might also make a difference to a now unemployed single parent or someone looking to have their snow plowed or calling a Sheriff’s deputy in an emergency.

Please beware of any political candidates coming to your door promising to cut your taxes, put your property on an acquisition value price or reduce the state, county or city budget as they are a small cog on a big wheel.

Hopefully, quality candidates can figure out a way to pull political parties together rather than tear them apart and create some actual solutions to problem. Remember that we have a community to be proud of, where we value senior citizens as well as children, private and public property and are respectful of each other.
Bob Rolston is a very smart man.

Our gov’t taxes and spends way too much of our money. Where could we economize if we lifted the property tax burden by lowering the mill-rate?
How about the Brooks Street Boon-dogle, Flower-pot!
    That’s perfect example of a 30 million-dollar gov’t waste.
    Lower taxes are always better.
Vote yourself a tax break by voting against the cap tax.

If you’re escalating the cost of the project for “shock effect” you’ve FAILED miserably. When sharing your opinions and thoughts, which as you’ve mentioned is your constitutional right, please at least get the figure close to accurate. Then perhaps you would come across as more believable and not come across as a fool. Please read the following.
      Thank you

I was including the $250,000 projected annual upkeep costs for the next ten yrs. And that’s not corrected for inflation or the usual cost over-runs.
Once we allow gov’t to deficit spend and do crazy expensive projects, there’s no end to the lasting excessive costs.
A road closed sign cost nothing!
Instead, we have the most expensive outdoor smoking lounge, for gov’t employees, in the entire state!
    Well done Failed Four commissioners.
And note: A citizen trounced commish Wrong in the Primary!
People are waking up to out-of-control and corrupt electeds and they are being put on notice.
Just one more Real Republican commissioner and we’ll have the majority.
And our hit-and-run, property-destroying, drunk-driving commish, will be sentenced in just two weeks (19 sept.)
Can she serve from a jail cell?
