Johnson County Public Health Officer Dr. Mark Schueler has been in contact with State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist and county health officers from around the state, learning as much as he can about COVID-19, how it behaves, its treatments and what other communities are experiencing, in preparation for dealing with the issue here.

He recently spoke about information he has gathered from those conversations in a briefing with the media.

Although Schueler believes there is still much to learn about the disease, he said the efforts made locally so far have made a difference.

It is a very controlled situation so far which has allowed healthcare workers time to get ready to deal with the virus.

He said people have learned how they behave around others and in public, and are becoming better infection prevention specialists as the situation with COVID-19 continues.
