Ron RichterAt 8:30 am Friday, May 24, Sheridan Fire-Rescue and Sheridan Police Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 745 Absaraka Street. Additional reports indicated the fire was on the roof. Goose Valley Fire Department and Wyoming Regional EMS were also dispatched to the address.
At 8:34 SFR Battalion 1 arrived on scene and confirmed a working structure fire in the attic and roof of a single story residential home. It was confirmed that all occupants were out of the structure and utilities were shut off. SFR Engine 2 (E-2) arrived at 8:36 and the crew immediately deployed a preconnected 1-¾” handline to initiate fire attack, starting with the fire showing on the roof. Once the visible fire on the roof was knocked down, E-2 crew transitioned inside the home to contain and extinguish the fire, bringing the fire under control at 8:45. SPD officers assisted the fire crew with confirming all residents were out of the home and providing traffic control.
E-2’s crew found a majority of fire in the attic space with extension of heat and smoke throughout the home. Fire crews transitioned to checking for extension of fire into adjacent areas of the building. Fire crews conducted a search of the main floor to confirm there were no other occupants or pets still inside, finding no one. The building was systematically ventilated and overhauled to remove all residual smoke, heat, and any potential for rekindle. The scene was turned over to SFR Origin and Cause Investigators and is currently under investigation. No civilians, pets, or emergency personnel were injured during this fire.
