During a Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee hearing titled, Stopping the Flow of Fentanyl: Public Awareness and Legislative Solutions, U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis spoke about the rapid increase of fentanyl overdoses in Wyoming. Lummis said that every state is a border state right now when it comes to fentanyl and the border crisis and failed policies at the border have contributed to the deaths of more than 73,000 Americans in 2022 due to fentanyl overdose. Lummis said fentanyl overdoses in Wyoming have gone up significantly in the last several years.

There is a simple fix for this drug problem…cut off the demand and the supply will dry up.It starts in the home by the parents.

Facts please. Fentanyl comes into the country by planes, trains, boats and automobiles not in the backpacks of migrant farm workers. 85% of the seizures of illicit drugs are U.S. citizens returning to the country. Please stop demonizing immigrants to disguise your racist MAGA agenda.

So let me get this clear . . . Deaths caused by fentanyl are because availability of the drug is somehow related to people coming across our border, and Biden is responsible and impeachable (everybody say Boo!). Deaths caused by firearms are because of the shooter’s mental illness and the suppliers of firearms can’t by law be held responsible (everybody say Yea!). Hmmmmm. And I’m not sure why fentanyl deaths are terrifying and firearm deaths (Wyoming has the highest per capita rate in the US) are not. Lummis could be smarter than me and has the logic clear. She can’t be just saying this for political advantage and self interest. She sure is an admirable (and best dressed) representative for Wyoming!!
