The Arts at Sheridan College will present the YAZZ Band in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, in Kinnison Hall at the Whitney Center for the Arts. This event is part of The Arts at Sheridan College Dinner and a Show series.
The YAZZ Band is the creation of Greg Yasinitsky, a composer, saxophonist, and winner of the American Prize for Composition, a recipient of grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Commission Project, Artist Trust and ASCAP.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan Community College Director of Bands and Jazz Studies Dr. Eric Richards told listeners a little more about Yasinitsky’s bands and the more intimate and spontaneous YAZZ Band that will be featured at the Whitney Center for the Arts.
Yasinitsky’s career has been extensive, once serving as the composer and conductor of the JEN All Stars Big Band, which included some of the most acclaimed musicians in the world, and has written music especially for David Sanborn, Sean Jones, Tia Fuller, Clark Terry, Jeff Coffin, Dave Liebman and the USAF “Airmen of Note” big band.
Yasinitsky told listeners his passion for jazz was sparked and cultivated at a young age.
Limited to just 50 seats, the Dinner and a Show option is $50 and includes choice of seating for the concert, two complimentary drinks (beer, wine, soft drinks), and themed buffet. Bar opens at 5:15 p.m. with dinner to follow. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased to attend only the concert.
