The Sheridan Dog and Cats Shelter has a paired set of dogs that will require a little more understanding than the average adopted K9.

Shelter Dog Lead Emi Whiting told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse that Merle and Melvin came to the shelter with only a few details concerning their background. Whiting teared up describing the dogs’ behavior upon arrival at the shelter six months ago.

Since that time, Whiting and shelter dog trainer Marian Eccles have been working with the animals to prepare them for adoption. According to Whiting, the two dogs are “paired”, stating one does not do well without the other. And although the shelter team has devoted many hours in doing so, cannot get either of the dogs used to the mere presence of a dog leash.

The cost of DNA testing the animals is too expensive. But to the best guess off staff, Merle and Melvin are both basset hound and border collie mix.

The shelter is only adopting the two animals as a pair to live in the same home.
