The former Sheridan County Sheriff said he has given the matter a lot of thought, ultimately deciding to serve the law enforcement agencies of the Cowboy State.

The Sheridan County Republican Party is now searching for an interested resident to fill the position. Interested parties must send a one-page letter of intent and a resume of up to two pages to Sheridan County Republican Party Chairman Bryan Miller. The packet can be delivered either in person or by mail to: 2071 Featherbed Ln., Sheridan, WY 82801.

A maximum of three pages of documentation will be accepted, no more, according to the party. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on July 28.

The Sheridan County Republican Party Central Committee plans to meet on Aug. 5, with the intent to interview all candidates.

The Central Committee members will then select three candidates to present to the Sheridan County Commissioners who will select one of the three candidates to finish Thompson’s term.
