This year, the 30th Annual Bighorn Trail Run takes place on June 16th and 17th and consists of four different races. Michelle Maneval describes the length of each available event.
Over the past 30 years, this event has garnered worldwide attention and contestants travel across the globe to participate in this beautiful yet challenging trail run. Japan, Italy, France, and Canada are just a few examples of countries represented in this race. Not too long ago, the Bighorn Trail Run caught the attention of the famous running tribe, the Tarahumara, who reside in the Sierra Madre highlands of Mexico.
It should be known that this event takes a considerable amount of human grit and determination to compete. It is a race that takes a toll both physically and mentally. There are a myriad of crazy and exciting stories about this race. One of the wildest stories that Maneval shared with me was the story of a man who had a run-in with a moose while competing for the win.
There is loads of rich and exciting history with the Bighorn Trail Run and to find out more along with the schedule of this upcoming event click here. Maneval extended an invitation for everyone to attend the final ceremony to congratulate the athletes on their marvelous triumphs as they complete their journey through the Bighorns.
An event that gets international coverage is an extremely impressive feat, for a small town like Sheridan. Remember to mark your calendars for June 16th and 17th and show support to these runners and staff who help put Sheridan on the map with our truly spectacular Bighorn mountains.
