The annual Spring Cleanup, also known as the Free Landfill Days and Hazardous Waste Day have been set and were announced during the Johnson County Commission meeting Tuesday morning.

The Spring Cleanup is a joint effort between the City of Buffalo and Johnson County, and is an opportunity for both city and county residents to remove unwanted junk, trash, and other items from their properties and take them to the county landfill, with the city or county picking up the cost of the fees at the landfill.

This year’s Free Landfill Days are set for May 17 through May 20.

Vouchers are needed by those wanting to participate and can be picked up at City Hall or the Johnson County Treasurer’s Office.

To get a voucher, city residents will need to bring proof of residency and the description of the vehicle they will be using during the cleanup to city hall, while county residents can get vouchers at the courthouse.

Voucher holders can take their trash and unwanted items to the county landfill for free, and vouchers are good for as many trips to the landfill that the holder wishes to make, as long as the voucher is presented at each trip to the landfill.

County residents can make as many trips as they can during one day, while city residents can make as many trips as they wish during all days of the cleanup.

For more information on the annual Spring Cleanup contact City Hall or the Johnson County Clerk’s Office.

The annual Hazardous Waste Day has been set for June 3, and we will have more on that in an upcoming story.
