The Sheridan VA Medical Center is now offering treatment for orthopedic injuries and ailments thanks to the addition of VA Orthopedic Physician’s Assistant and veteran Jeremy Burkett.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Burkett told listeners he grew up in Buffalo N.Y., and while helping his aging relatives, he found his passion to pursue medicine.

After serving with the U.S. Navy, Burkett would eventually find himself working for VA’s throughout the country. But it was his and his daughter’s wish to expand their small farm operation and ultimately decided Wyoming would be the place to settle.

While at school to become a physician’s assistant, while many of his fellow students were working to create careers in emergency rooms, Burkett would decide to pursue orthopedics.

When asked why he has worked in the VA medical system throughout the county as opposed to seeking work in the private sector, Burkett told listeners the answer is simple, he’s here to serve his brother and sister veterans and can communicate with them through the unspoken bond all veterans share.

When possible, Burkett believes that surgery should be a last option, opting instead to treat injuries as noninvasive and conservatively as possible.

If you are a veteran and would like to see Burkett, consult your VA primary care physician regarding the muscular or skeletal complaint and request a consultation.
