At around 5pm Friday evening, a local law enforcement agency notified the Wyoming Highway Patrol that a driver that was suspected to be highly intoxicated had entered the eastbound lane of Interstate 90 at the 5th Street turnoff to Sheridan. According to Patrol Captain Jason Green, a trooper located the white cadillac xts driven by 43 year old Marshall Acker of Texas near milepost 25, traveling at 97mph. The trooper then started pursuing the vehicle with lights and sirens active.

Acker failed to yield to the trooper and continued to drive eastbound at a high rate of speed for about 4 miles. He then climbed out of the cadillac’s sunroof, while maintaining a speed of between 80 and 85mph. Once his body was on top of the car, Acker leaped off of the passenger side. First responders attempted CPR to no avail as Acker succumbed to injuries sustained. The vehicle Acker was driving was stopped by the cable medium barrier shortly ahead of where the driver jumped out. The eastbound lanes of I-90 were closed for around 2 hours while the scene was processed. Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the incident.
