The Sheridan County YMCA has developed a wide variety of camps with the intent to keep every child learning and engaged throughout the summer season.
Specialty camp registration opens for YMCA members at 8 a.m. on April 4. Non-members can register beginning at 8 a.m. on April 7.
Specialty camps at the Y offer educational and activity opportunities such as photography, theater and art. Science camps offer the opportunity for geological digs, bug hunts and outdoor activities to keep kids engaged. Sports camps offered this year involve volleyball, soccer, basketball and others.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, YMCA Executive Director Liz Cassiday told listeners that camps, specifically backyard camps, are a great opportunity for working parents while offering younger children a camping experience alternative to daycare.
Day camps take place at the YMCA and release around the noon hour or 5 p.m. Great for younger children these camps act as an introduction to camping.
Resident and Day camp registration will open for YMCA members starting at 8 a.m. April 11. Non-member registration will begin at 8a.m. on April 14.
Resident camps take place at Camp Roberts, located on Highway 16 outside of Buffalo. These camps offer more of the traditional summer camp experience while also offering lessons in subjects such as backpacking and hunter safety.
