The Johnson County COVID Task Force updated information on the virus in the county in their most recent release.

According to the task force, COVID continues to spike in Johnson County, and the numbers from August confirm that.

There were 15 lab-confirmed cases from August 1st through the 7th; 17 from the 8th through the 14th; 45 from the 15th through the 21st; and 57 from the 22nd through the 28th for a total number for the month of 134 cases.

Lab-confirmed cases do not include rapid antigen tests performed, and according to the release the data suggests that for every case of the Delta variant there are 8 more cases, so the number of cases could be doubled or even tripled.

Currently there is one hospitalization due to COVID-19 and 61 lab-confirmed active COVID cases in Johnson County.

In the Johnson County School District, 2.4% of staff members are absent due to COVID-19 out of 250 staff members; and 2.9% of students are absent out of 1,200 students.

More information on isolation, quarantine, additional and booster doses of the vaccine and where to get them are at the COVID Task Force page on the county website, and we have provided a link with this story at sheridanmedia.com.
