The State of Wyoming’s Medicaid expansion bill was being followed by Johnson County Healthcare Center CEO Sean McCallister, along with many other hospitals and care facilities around the state.

House Bill HB 0135, failed on a 3-2 vote by the Wyoming Senate’s Labor, Health and Social Services Committee.

At the hospital board meeting Wednesday, McCallister spoke about the failure of the bill in the legislature, and said the bill would have benefited the healthcare center as well as every other hospital in the state had it passed.

According to discussions at the meeting, Medicaid expansion would benefit about 24,000 people in the state, or roughly 5% of the population, and Medicaid expansion will more than likely be a topic of discussion in the state legislature for the foreseeable future.
