Pat BlairCommercial air service at Sheridan County Airport is on target to meet 10,000 enplanements this year, which is the requirement for receiving money from the federal government.
That was the word from Steve Maier, president of the Sheridan-Johnson County Critical Air Service Team, in a report at the legislative forum this week.
SkyWest has been providing air service in Sheridan County since January, and Maier explained the role of the Critical Air Service Team, also known as CAST.
Maier said the county saw wonderful ridership with SkyWest when the service started in January. He said February was a record month, but numbers fell with the COVID pandemic.
He said there was some concern that SkyWest might pull out as it had in some other communities. But, he said, the airline has continued to serve Wyoming, and the Sheridan County Airport saw a bounce-back in numbers going into the summer.
At one time, SkyWest was down to one flight a day, but responding to a question from Representative Mark Kinner, CAST member Renee Obermueller said there are currently two flights daily on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday, and one flight on the remaining days.
She said additional flights have been added to cover the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
