Northern Wyoming Career Pathways Partnership: Preparing Students for Wyoming Industries 

Whitney Benefits Executive Director Erin Kilbride and Sheridan College President Dr. Walt Tribley appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak on the Northern Wyoming Career Pathways Partnership.

The Northern Wyoming Career Pathways Partnership is a partnership between Whitney Benefits, Sheridan College, the four local school districts and regional employers to connect students with careers from kindergarten through community college.

According to Kilbride, this initiative serves students in Sheridan and Johnson counties by expanding career exposure, job shadows, internships, apprenticeships and other work-based learning opportunities. Partners include Sheridan County school districts 1, 2 and 3, Johnson County School District 1, New West Manufacturing and Sheridan Memorial Hospital. 

Through YouScience, (an interest and aptitude based survey for students) students can identify their interests and aptitudes, then develop education and training routes that can lead to possible professions. The partnership also asks businesses to help shape curriculum so instruction reflects regional workforce needs.

The effort is intended to strengthen Wyoming’s talent pipeline, give young people clearer reasons to remain in not only the region but the state and support long-term economic growth by aligning education more closely with available careers and skills that local employers and industry leaders increasingly require today.
