Sheridan resident Bev Leichtnam has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Sheridan City Council. Leichtnam, in a media release, said she has a profound sense of duty and commitment to the betterment of the City of Sheridan and that the City is brimming with potential, but it is also faced with complex issues that require thoughtful leadership and decisive action. From improving our infrastructure, to fostering economic growth, from ensuring fiscal responsibility to promoting public safety, there is much work to be done.

Leichtnam said she believes in the power of our community, collaboration and compassion and listening to the voices of all residents, regardless of their background or circumstance. Leichtnam was employed with the City of Sheridan for 25 years in a variety of positions and she feels this historical background ensures that she will be a champion for transparency, accountability and progress. Leichtnam currently serves on the City Planning Commission and is working with the current City Council in developing their Strategic Plan. She is a board member of the Miss Indian America Collective and currently represents Precinct 2-3 as a Committeewoman.

There are three seats on the City Council that are up for election this year, as the terms for Councilors Steve Brantz, Kristen Jennings and Shawn Day will conclude at the end of 2024. The Wyoming Primary Election is August 20 and the General Election will be November 5.

One question. Does she prefer higher taxes or Lower taxes?
We’ve been paying the highest sales tax in Wyoming for way too long. It’s time to vote ourselves a sales tax break. Does she support a reduction to a 5 cent sales tax or not?
Let’s lift the tax burden and vote to Bring Back the Five Cent Sales Tax. (total) Six percent is just too high in these trying times.

Does City Council have power of the 1% County sales tax? Sheridan County does not have the highest Sales Tax in Wyoming. Areas of Teton County have an 8% sales tax rate according to documentation from the State of Wyoming Excise Tax Rate Chart dated January 1st, 2024. 7 other Wyoming Counties have a 6% Sales Tax Rate. So to say Sheridan County is paying the highest tax rate is an utter falsehood.
I think people who oppose the 1% sales tax should really show their dedication to the cause by not using anything funded by the “power of the penny.” Imagine Sheridan, Sheridan County, WYoming without the penny power. The positivity that this .01 cent on the dollar tax does far exceeds the negativity.

Thirty years of gov’t propaganda has succeeded in deluding some into thinking “Higher taxes are Good for Us” They are not! Lower taxes are always better. But you are correct in saying there is one tiny dot on the map, Teton Village, within Teton county, that soaks skiers with an 8% tax.
However, it remains factually correct that no county in Wyoming pays a higher sales tax than our state-high 6%. Yes there are other tax-intelligence-challenged counties that pay an equally high 6%, so I guess Sheridan County is “tied” for the dubious “honor” of Highest Sales Tax in the State”. The Majority of people in the majority of counties in Wyoming, pay a lower, 4 or 5% sales tax. I remain strongly and proudly in favor of lifting the tax burden from the backs of the thousands of struggling people in Sheridan County.
    Lower Taxes are Always Better!

The question remains un-answered. Does this candidate prefer continuing to saddle the people of Sheridan County with a state-high, 6% sales Tax?
Or will she advocate for lifting this highly regressive sales tax burden and give us all a much-needed TAX BREAK?
Lower Taxes always give Relief to Tax-payers and generate higher total tax revenue into the gov’t. JFK-Trump tax cuts.
    Lower Taxes are Always Better!
