Community Land Trust Receives Key Service Award

The Key Service Award is presented by the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce to a member of the Chamber that’s a non-profit organization and that has made a significant impact in Sheridan County.

The 2019 award recipient, announced in the Chamber luncheon recently, is the Sheridan Community Land Trust.

Anna Bailey, who’s one of the chamber’s board members, talked about why the land trust was selected this year.

Bailey said in the past year, more than 10,000 visitors have enjoyed more than 13 miles of trails, including the Red Grade Trails at the base of the Big Horn Mountains and the Soldier Ridge and Hidden Hoot trails on the west edge of Sheridan.

She said the land trust has also developed the Tongue River Water Trail, a series of 14 access sites along the Tongue River and Goose creeks.

In addition, the Sheridan Community Land Trust has organized educational courses for ranchers, recreationists and children, established historic preservation easements and developed the award-winning Black Diamond Trail audio tour. The land trust has also established conservation easements on 3,000 acres in Sheridan County.

According to the Chamber, the Key Service Award honors a non-profit that serves with enthusiasm and dedication, addressing needs in the community and aligning the vision of the organization for maximum effectiveness.
