Johnson County Health Officer Dr. Mark Schueler, during Friday’s weekly Emergency Operations Center media briefing, talked about the variances granted to the county by State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist late last week.

Dr. Schueler said the variances to begin opening the county for business have come earlier than expected.

Schueler said the variances, which are listed on the EOC website as well as the Wyoming State Health Department website, maintains social distancing, infection control measures, as well as masks and gloves, and cleaning surfaces.

Our risk is greater with restaurant and beverage service indoors, he said, but he believes the measures will mitigate that risk.

He said it’s time to find out what happens by lifting the restrictions at the local level.

Schueler is excited to move forward and feels we have done well in dealing with this pandemic to this point.

He and city and county officials met and discussed the variances and they felt applying for them was the best decision at this time for Johnson County, although some may disagree, which he said is unavoidable.

It’s time to stop the theft of our constitutionally protected, natural rights, by un-elected health officers.
